Dining
San Miguel has absolutely wonderful restaurants for you to try! We have listed a few of our favorites, but you can pretty much eat in any restaurant - especially if you see other tourists. Almost all restaurants cater to the tourist and are very careful with food preparation. General info - All of the restaurants are an easy walk or a quick taxi ride. Yes, any water that they bring to your table is fine for your consumption (as are the ice cubes). A tip on fish - Thursday evenings and the weekends is when fish is most fresh. Asian Food China Palace - They have a variety of Chinese dishes - Mandarin, Hunan, and Szechwan. One of our favorites are the “Chicken Lettuce Wraps”. Their Peking Duck is good too and the chef will slice and serve the duck tableside! There is a courtyard that you can enjoy. Open 1pm daily. Mesones 57. 154-5360.
Harry’s - This really has a bit of everything and is a very popular place. It is a blend of Creole, Cajun and Mexican Cuisine. On Saturday and Sunday’s they have a wonderful brunch and great hamburgers. Open daily Noon until 1am. Hidalgo 12. 152-2645
El Market Bistro - is a casually elegant restaurant with a lovely courtyard plus nice inside dining. Many evenings there may be a guitarist or a pianist. There are many entrées to choose from but we love their Sweet Breads. Open from 1pm daily. Hernandez Macias 95. 152-3229.
International Cuisine Alfredo - Located inside the beautiful old courtyard of the Posada de San Francisco Hotel that is located on the Jardin. Mexican Haute Cuisine – very interesting combinations of flavors. Valet parking. 152-6097. Closed Mondays. Asafran - sophisticated palate. Interesting entrees. Sleek interior to restaurant. Hernandez Macias 97. Closed Wednesdays. 152-7507. Casa Blanca - Quaint restaurant with everything from salads to pizzas and delicious soups! The waiters are very attentive and the food is good. Hildago 34. 154-6070. Casa de Sierra Nevada - One of the nicer restaurants in San Miguel. The courtyard dining is beautiful. Very romantic. They are affiliated with the Small Luxury Hotel chains. Open 1pm daily. Hospicio 35. 152-7040. Chaminox - The dining room is small and quaint, but there is also a beautiful courtyard area. The menu is on a board that the waiter brings to the table. The Vietnamese spring rolls are light and delicious as are the salads. 154-8363. Sollano 17A El Campanario - Many entrees to choose from. Service is great. Open 1-11pm. Closed Thursday. Canal 34. 152-0775. La Capilla - We have to say that this is the most elegant restaurant in town. Absolutely stunning upstairs terrace that looks up at the Parroquia. The inside dining room is a very romantic setting. You need reservations. This is a definitely the spot for your special occasion. Cuna de Allende #10. 152-0698. Closed Tuesdays. Great martinis. Nirvana - Small, quaint restaurant. Serving a mix of fusion food that attempts to depart from traditional context. Reservations recommended. Mesones 101. 150-0067. Open daily from 8:30 until 10pm. Closed Tuesday. Tio Lucas - Great fun and is festive and colorful. Nightly music. Mesones #103. 152-4996. Reservations recommended. Be careful of their maragaritas!! The Food Factory - Located at the Aurora Factory. Very nice atmosphere. Good food and nice wines. The guys can have a bite to eat while the girls shop at all the wonderful stores and galleries!!
Andreas - located just outside of town in an area of a hacienda that was once used as a grainery. The chef will tell you the specials. Open Thursday - Sunday from 1pm. 120-3481 Bella Italia - Nice courtyard. A favorite for mussels. Plaza Colonial - Canal 21. Interior courtyard. L’Invito - this is classic Northern Italian cuisine. The chef will come to your table and tell you the specials. Happy Hour Daily at 4pm. New location on the highway to Dolores Hidalgo KM 5.3 across from the entrance to Candelaria. phone110-2080. Opens at 1pm Romano’s - Nice roof top terrace and outside bar area. They have a pizza oven and will customize your pizzas. Lots of pasta choices. Closed Sunday and Monday. Open evening 5pm - 10:00. Trattoria - A good local place to stop in and have a bite to eat. Codo #9. 152-3790.Viola – the newest popular spot in town….Wonderful salads, pastas and a nice wine selection. Across from the Bellas Artes entrance. Reservations for dinner suggested. Closed on Tuesdays.
Bugambilia - Garden patio with authentic Mexican cuisine. A typical Mexican dish is Chiles en Nogada. Hidalgo 42. 152-0127. Open daily 12-11pm. Ole Ole - Fun, funky and a local’s favorite place for fajitas. You have your choice of chicken, beef or shrimp and all are great! Bull fighting motif. Loreto #66. 152-0896. Open daily at 1:00pm Pueblo Viejo - Cute interior. Next to the Jardin. Umaran 6. 152-4977. Open daily 8am - 1am Nice rooftop for interesting views of the city.
Casa Payo - Argentinia Steakhouse - located on the corner of Pila Seca and Zacateros. Open daily from noon until 11:00. Live music starting at 8pm El Pegaso - breakfast, lunch and dinner. A local hangout for breakfast or a quick lunch. Sandwiches, full entrée. Daily specials. Corregidora 6 (across from Mexican Post Office downtown). Open Monday – Saturday. 8:30am – 10:00pm 152-1351 Hecho en Mexico - located on Ancha de San Antonio before the Institito. Causal. Good chicken fingers and fish and chips. A local favorite. (located across from Domino’s) Mechi Cano’s - our version of a Hard Rock Café. Canal #16 152-0216. Planta Baja - A new addition to our restaurants. Located on the corner of Hernandez Macias and Canal. Sophisticated atmosphere. Open daily Senor Playa - fun and funky for San Miguel. Located on the Carretera Salida a Celaya #3. It has it’s own sand volleyball court. Very causal. Closed Tuesdays. Open from noon Villa Jacaranda - has a wonderful selection of food. One of the favorites is their beef tacos! Great onion rings too…..Located on Aldama 53. 152-1015. Also has a nice Sunday brunch. . Bars and/or Music Many restaurants have live music, but these are more of a bar atmosphere with food also. La Azotea - located on the rooftop above Pueblo Viejo. A popular local bar. Umeran 6. La Fragua - Cuna de Allende #3. Mama Mia’s - Umaran #8 Other popular bars are Harry’s and Tio Lucas. |
