Downtown Dining - North of the River
AGAVE GRILL 222-2000 Located at #589 Morelos (corner of Aldama)
EL ARRAYAN 222-7195 Calle Allende #344 Open 6:00 to 11:00 pm. Closed on Tuesdays. El Arrayan serves traditional Mexican cuisine paired with pleasant service. The Arrayan tree sits just outside the open kitchen of this hacienda styled restaurant. Start with an order of sumptuous plantain fritters filled with black beans, or an unusual salad of diced nopal cactus paddles with fresh cheese. Favorite main courses include their tacos filled with prime beef filet, or a Mexican duck confit, served in an arrayán-orange sauce. The excellent service is a plus to this can't-miss dining experience. CAFÉ DES ARTISTES 222-3228 Calle Guadalupe Sanchez #740 Puerto Vallarta’s most famous gourmet restaurant now has 3 restaurants in one location. We especially enjoy the pumpkin and prawn soup as an appetizer and the duckling as a main course. Desserts are great! Beautiful presentation by French chef Thierry Blouet – almost like France. Reservations are important and we suggest you request seating in the garden. Live dinner music with piano and flute. www.cafedesartistes.com, artistes@pvnet.com.mx BARCELONA TAPAS 222-0510 #906 Matamoros and 31 de Octubre Tapas translates to “small plates”. Delicious selection of first course plates. The cuisine is of Spain and the sangrias are the best in town. Great views and sunsets from the roof top dining area.
LA CIGALE 223-2247 Calle Hidalgo #398 (two blocks south of the Cathedral) Small, typical French Bistro. Mussels, escargot, and the onion soup are all excellent. Lunch and dinner. LAS PALOMAS 222-3675 P, Diaz Ordaz No. 610 This downtown restaurant is right on the Malecon and has been around for years. It’s a great spot to stop for breakfast or lunch when you are downtown shopping. If you eat in the bar, you can order the little tacos, which makes a great light lunch, but they don’t serve them in the dining room. Good Mexican food and great avocado soup. LE BISTRO 222-0283 Located on the Cuale River Island below the upper bridge on Insurgentes Very nice atmosphere. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but we prefer it for lunch. Live piano music. Closed on Sundays. RIVER CAFÉ 223-0788 Located at the Rio Cuale island below the lower bridge on Ignacio Vallarta The natural setting of the River Café has been made even lovelier through careful tending of the riverbank garden that continues in the restaurant patio. You can have breakfast, lunch and dinner in a beautiful garden setting with Mexican and international menu items. Great duckling! River Café usually has live music and a very nice selection of art by local artists. www.rivercafe.com.mx rivercafe@rivercafe.com.mx SI SENOR 113-0064 Located on Guadalupe Sanchez and Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez #274 Centre Delicious Mexican gourmet. A variety of food from all over Mexico. Great atmosphere and service!!! TRIO 222-2196 Guerrero #264 – 1 1/2 block off Juarez The owner is the former chef of Café Maximilian’s and has come up with a very creative menu and excellent food. Open lunch and dinner. Now air conditioned but feels like an outside garden setting. Trios features a rotating art collection by well know local artists. Reservations recommended. LA BODEQUITA DEL MEDIO 223-1585 Located on the Malecon Traditional Cuban restaurant and bar Designed to copy the original La Bodequita del Medio in Cuba where Hemingway used to hang out. Ask for a felt pen to autograph the wall. LA DOLCE VITA 222-3852 Diaz Ordaz #674 Located on the Malecón, La Dolce Vita will not only tempt you with pizza and homemade pasta, but also with tiramisu and gelato. Watch the sunset as you enjoy the warm Italian atmosphere. Casual atmosphere with dining rooms on two levels. The homemade pasta and Italian style pizzas and the delightful desserts. DE SANTOS 223-3052, 223-3053 Morelos #771, Centro Mediterranean style cuisine in a dynamic architectural environment. Best bet are the pizzas. One of the owners idsfrom the famous Mexican group Mana, and music is very much part of the environment here. A state of the art sound system kicks in to DJ style action after 10:30 pm. A great place to see the beautiful people of Vallarta and Guadalajara. HACIENDA SAN ANGEL 222-2692 On Calle Miramar, behind the cathedral, by reservation only Open for Dinner 6 - 11 pm. An oasis of luxurious elegance adorned with antiques and other unique works of art, Chef Gonzalo creates gastronomic works of art such as the succulent Steak Cabreria and traditional Chicken Mole, which delight both eye and palate. HARD ROCK CAFÉ, OUTBACK STEAK HOUSE, HOOTERS, MCDONALD’S DOMINOS PIZZA, BURGER KING, BASKIN ROBINS, CHEESE-BURGER IN PARADISE - Puerto Vallarta has them all – just like home if you are into that sort of thing.
